Knebworth park filming

In the Knebworth grounds I worked with Ryan Bartlett, George Blackwell on a music video. We chose a summer song to try and coincide with the weather and the setting. That summer song was called Sunny Afternoon by The Kinks which was chosen because of its specific lyrics about the ‘summertime’. We worked over one day on lip syncing and experimenting with different shot types.

At the shoot we distinguished what truly worked and what did not. Mostly our trouble was lip syncing the song; none of the shots we did, did not work completely.

At the post production stage had several problems editing the footage. The primary issue was that there was not enough footage to cover the whole song. Another main problem in the film was the fact that the lip syncing was not perfect on some of the clips, some of these we decided to film again. To counter some of the awkward lip syncing we slowed down the clips by nanoseconds or vice versa. By showing the clip of the slide in forward motion and then by reversing we filled up time in the song that otherwise would not have been filled, the effect also worked very fluidly and well. There were some major continuity errors as I (the lip sync) had to redo some shots but with different clothes than on the day we were at Knebworth.

The experience of doing this task has made me realise how tricky and time consuming lip syncing and then getting the correct time pattern along with the song was. I would probably choose not to do this type of production again. However it does seem to be the type of choice I would go for knowing that there is a plot already written due to having lyrics.
