Planning Stage 1

Our first choice of song for our music video was Swedish House Mafia - One. The main reason behind this is that we believed we could create a music video which did not include actors to lip sync lyrics to the song or act out anything we needed to correspond to the song - we are not the best actors. It would have included mainly intruments such as drums or a keyboard that would directly match a bass or snare beat for example, among other abstract ideas that we did not go into too much detail with. However, we decided that this idea would have been too unoriginal since we had already seen several music videos which mimicked this idea.

We decided to do a music video for the song Underdog by Kasabian. This choice was made due to the fact that we mainly liked the theme of the song and also the pace. Songs that are fast are difficult to create videos for since you usually need a lot of quick edits and a variety of shots so choosing a slow (ish) song is to a large extent more doable. The theme was interesting to us as the subject matter of the 'underdog' can be interpreted in many different ways. The song meaning the band intended was the concept of the band itself being the Underdog (supposedly) in their more early years as a small indie band. They fight against all odds including media criticism and thrive in support of the fans. Our concept was that an individual would be the 'underdog', a kind of lowlife who would hit the jackpot in an intense poker game (probably having no luck in them before). A simple plot is commonplace in music videos (if there is a story) so we did not want to go overboard with that.

Here is the music video for the song:
